Artifaqt Balm

Walnut Oil

The idea of edible or food safe mineral oils (petroleum) has always seemed strange to me. That is why when we decided to make Artifaqt Balm I searched for an alternative. Mahoney’s Walnut Oil is 100% high linoleic acid walnut oil developed for woodworkers who want a non-toxic alternative to petroleum based products. What makes the oil unique is its ability to dry. Sourced from trees in Northern California which are naturally high in two key fatty acids that help this penetrating oil cure into a protective coating. The oil is also heat-treated to remove the proteins that may cause allergic reactions to those predisposed to them.

Beeswax

This one is closer to home and stays in the family. My cousin Don’s capping wax from his Howlett Hill Honey hives in Syracuse, New York. The smell was not a dramatic acting scene, I have always been incredibly fond of the scent of beeswax. If you have ever visited Artifaqt Market the smell will be familiar.

These are the two ingredients in Artifaqt Balm. Simple, but very effective. The walnut oil penetrates the grain and the beeswax acts as a protective barrier between the food and the wood. We have tinkered with the ratio over the years so you can apply the balm with ease.

With a cloth or paper towel simply wipe a thin layer of Artifaqt Balm onto any piece of wooden serveware. The occasional coat will help to repel moisture and increase the life of your product!
